Love bamboo but don't know how to build with it?

Well, we know how and are not shy about teaching others how to as well... when you purchase material from Bamboo DNA, you are also joining a network of experienced bamboo builders.

We pride ourselves on the integrity and quality of our material and work, and will help guide you in the decisions that will give you as much satisfaction as it does us.

THE DROP

A new concept in festival architecture, the DROP incorporated a visionary art gallery, a cinema/stage, and a live performance stage... all into one gigantic 250' diameter plaza. Pictured here is one wing of the art gallery, which included an art shop.

Design: Gerard Minakawa

Materials: Bamboo, cob, reclaimed wood, natural rope, steel, fabric, found natural materials.

A different wing of the "Tube", the name I gave to the horseshoe-shaped art gallery surrounding the DROP event space.

The Liminal stage, which functioned as both a cinema and forum for speakers and workshops. The Tube (art gallery) surrounded this area completely.

Live performance stage, opposite the Liminal stage and separated by a 180' diameter circular arena.

Front of the DROP. The entire space was enclosed by overlapping "scales", which were actually 20' tall panels woven from bamboo splits.

View of the Drop from above, looking west. You can see the Tube art gallery enclosing the giant courtyard on either side, like a massive bear hug...

A stone patio designed and built by Ralf, a local German mason, graced the front entrance of the DROP... and kids loved to turn the bamboo water fountain on and off!

Scales of the fish... the woven panel walls of the Drop housing all the fine art.
